Tips to a Higher Corn Yield – Hybrid Seed Corn

  • Ensure you are using quality hybrid seed corn and that adequate nutrition is available within the first 42 days
  • Good fertility, adequate moisture and cool nights is preferable
  • Invest in a quality planter – this is one of the most important pieces of equipment on a farm
  • Plant 2 inches deep when soil temperatures are 57 degrees and colder and 2.25 inches deep at 60 degrees or warmer, especially after mid-May
  • Err on the heavy side of packer wheel pressures and put your nitrogen at sidedress versus all up front
